Members of the cast rehearsing for the latest Lowestoft Players production BOOGIE NIGHTS will be turning the clock back just over 30 years to 1977 and the disco era for their latest musical extravaganza.
The 35 strong cast will be slipping into their flares, popping on their platform shoes and high-rising their hair for a nostalgic trip back to the 70’s, the decade that taste forgot.
Lee Nevill has landed the lead role of Roddy O’Neill, the part originally created for Shane Ritchie in his pre-Eastenders days. Back then Boogie Nights played the West End and was so successful that it toured the UK for 10 years.
Lee made his original debut with the Players back in 1990 when he played the Artful Dodger in the musical Oliver! His recent roles include Banardo in the Players award- winning production of West SideStory, Ching Ho in Thoroughly Modern Millie and Simple Simon in Jack and the Beanstalk.
The role of Debs, his onstage girlfriend in Boogie Nights will be played by Beccie Simpson.
BOOGIE NIGHTS tells the story of Roddy O’Neill, a Jack-the-lad, whose life of birds, booze and boogie is about to be turned upside down.
It's the night that the Elvis Presley died and Roddy is busy dreaming of life as a rock star! Debs, his girlfriend, has her own thoughts... basically that Roddy's a selfish, arrogant, horrible, rude and heartless pig! But the truth is that Roddy is in love with Debs, and Debs is in love with Roddy, but Debs knows that her Roddy has more than a roving eye! Their musical journey follows them through tears and laughter until they find what they are both searching for.
BOOGIE NIGHTS - The Musical is packed with over 30 of the greatest Disco classics and will have the audience up on its feet doing The Bump and The Hustle to some of the grooviest chart topping hits from the 1970’s, including 'You Sexy Thing',' Y.M.C.A.', 'I Will Survive', 'In The Navy', Celebration', 'I Love To Love', 'Boogie Wonderland' and many, many more.
